Mechanisms of Particle Adhesion and Aerosolization in Dry Powder Inhalers

Martin, a fifth-year graduate student, examines the influence that physical and chemical properties (e.g. morphology, surface energies) of drug and carrier particles have on the performance of dry powder formulations for pulmonary drug delivery.

 

Shayna McGill

Mechanisms of Nanoparticle Transport and Enhancement of Drug Delivery Through Biofilms and Mucus

Shayna is a fourth-year graduate student. Her research focuses on enhancing drug delivery through extracellular barriers found in the lung.

 

Steve Marek, Ph.D.

Steve is a postdoctoral fellow who received his Ph.D. in chemical engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. The main thrust of his research is to determine the interaction between particles in an aerosol, and how different surface chemistries and morphologies affect this cohesion. He is also working to determine the cause of batch-to-batch variation in inhalation-grade lactose.

 

Ibrahim El-Sherbiny Abdelhalim, Ph.D.

Development of Polymeric Microparticles for Pulmonary Drug Delivery

Ibrahim works on the development and in-vitro assessment of novel respirable/swellable nano/micro carrier systems with adequate aerodynamic characteristics that can confer sustained drug release in the lung.
